Kathi Opsahl, a record-setting, state tournament hero for Elk River last spring, has gotten off to a great start in college softball with Saint Mary’s of Winona.
The freshman outfielder was named MIAC Player of the Week in the first week of the season, after hitting safely in all ten games with .471 average, 16 hits, three doubles, and 10 runs-batted-in, on a trip to Florida where the Cardinals had a 4-6 record. She was also named St. Mary’s athlete of the week.
Opsahl broke most of Elk River’s hitting records in her senior season and helped the Elks capture the state championship. She hit a game-tying, seventh-inning homer against Orono in the first game.
