Spectrum freshman Kelly Mitchell was a finalist in a national contest sponsored by Photographers Forum and Nikon, announced her teacher, Jessica Kemnitz.
Her black-and-white portrait of classmate Corinna Siebsen was one of 700 entrants picked, from 16,600 students entering, for the 34th annual College and High School Photography Contest.
“Photography is a major hobby of mine,” Mitchell said. “Nature is my favorite type of photography, but I still like to take pictures of people also.”
Kemnitz, Spectrum technology arts teacher and yearbook adviser, said Mitchell took the photo in her Photography I class.
“She is interested in pursuing art in college,” Kemnitz said.
