Zimmerman has two wrestlers in the state tournament after Hunter Smith won a championship and Austin May was a runner-up in Section 6AA on Saturday in Becker.

Hunter (32-7), a senior, pinned Litchfield’s Tyler Jones (30-3) in the 132-pound finals, after advancing with a bye, pin, and 5-2 decision over Annandales Joe Mosley (29-12). Hunter, who has 130 career wins, will make his second state trip. He was a section runner-up last year.

May (33-7), a junior, had a bye and two first-period pins, then lost in the finals 4-2 to Foley’s Tyler Midas (33-3). May had a true-second match and won by pin over Becker’s Tyler Madsen.

Thunder senior Mitch Gagne (13-19) placed fourth at 113 pounds and freshman Evan Carr (13-17) placed fifth at 107.

State individuals will be held Friday and Saturday at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
