The Zimmerman Thunder slipped into second place with a 73-64 conquest of the Becker Bulldogs at home on Tuesday evening, led by Lexi Funaro with 23 points.
The Thunder squared accounts with Becker, which beat them 47-40 earlier.
“There were a lot of fouls tonight, but this game was played much cleaner than the last one,” said Thunder coach Lance Dalbey. “That one was just ugly.”
The Thunder are now 9-3 in the Granite Ridge Conference, with two conference games left, trailing only Albany (11-2), which has beaten them twice. Foley is 9-4 and Becker 8-4.
The Thunder also moved ahead of the Bulldogs in the section rankings. Dalbey said the Thunder are now likely to be No. 4 and Becker No. 5, which would pit them against each other again, with the higher seed at home.
The Thunder (15-9 overall) made 27 of 37 free throws, led by Funaro, senior guard, who was 13-for-16. Becker (12-11) made 22 of 28 free throws.
Brooke Borchard tossed in 18 points, Kaitlyn Mason 16, Danielle Williams nine and Maddie Jacob six for Zimmerman.
Amanda Lindsay and Allison Cieslak scored 14 each for Becker, which made six 3-pointers.
Zimmerman will host Mora on Thursday evening.
