Hockey: Elks thump Armsrong 6-1 in conference finale, finish 2nd

Two straight goals by Reggie Lutz broke the game open and the Elk River Elks cruised to a 6-1 win over Robbinsdale Armstrong to close the regular season on Saturday in Robbinsale.

The Elks finished 13-3 in the Northwest Suburban for second place behind Blaine (15-1), and will take a 17-6 record into Section 7AA starting Tuesday, at home against Cloquet-Esko-Carlton.

The Elks outshot the Falcons 18-4 in the first period but had to settle for a 1-0 lead on Dylan Bouten’s goal 2:29 into the game. In the second period, though, Chase Springman scored at 6:33 and Lutz at 7:32, with Lutz striking again on a power play at 10:40.

After Kyle Sweeney got Armstrong (4-12-1, 9-13-1) on the board in the third period, Kyle Badget at 7:41 and Brennan Beese at 11:46 made it 6-1 for the Elks, who had a 38-18 edge in shots.

Jake Jaremko and Nick Perbix made two assists each, and Jack Geissler, Bouten, Nolan Dwyer, Isaac Schwab, Springman, Matt Kiertstad and Lutz one each. Mac Berglove stopped 17 of 18 shots.

The Elks were 1-for-7 on the power play and killed four penalties.

Elk points leaders are Jake Jaremko with 19 goals, 32 assists and 51 points; Springman 20-21-41 and Lutz 9-18-27.
