Nordic Ski: Elks’ Martin places 22nd, makes all-state

Joey Martin of Elk River made all-state in Nordic Ski by placing 22nd at the state meet Thursday at Giants Ridge in Biwabik.

Martin, a senior, moving up from 45th place last year, had a 17:39 freestyle and 17:03 classic. The top 25 make all-state.

Elk senior Breck Hickman placed 37th with 36:06, moving up from 49th last year.

In the girls race, Elk River junior Reece HickmanĀ  placed 75th with 43:39.6 and Rogers senior Brittney Dorn was 88th with 44:19.6.

There were 120 girls and 117 boys in the state race.

The individual champions were Bloomington Jefferson sophomore Zak Ketterson with 32:52.7 and Irondale senior Mattie Watts with 37:14.6.

The Forest Lake boys and Wayzata girls were team champions.

Nordic Ski is still a one-class event.
