Hockey: Blaine sends Royal girls home, 7-0

The Rogers Royals girls hockey season ended with a 7-0 drubbing by top-seeded Blaine on Saturday in the Section 5AA semifinals at Roseville.

“We had fun. We stayed with them for a while, but Blaine is very good,” said Royal coach Dale Sager. “Their good players really stood out. Schlagel had four goals.”

Amy Schlagel hit the Bengals’ first goal and the last three, and assisted on two other goals. The senior forward has 30 goals for the season. Kiersten Falck scored two goals and Samantha Swanstrom one.

Royal senior goalie Michelle Klimstra faced 59 shots and stopped 52 in the final game of a five-year varsity career.

Rogers finished 13-11-3 including a 3-2 overtime section win over Coon Rapids.

Blaine (21-3-2), the Northwest Suburban Conference champion, is ranked No. 8 in the state.
