Basketball: Thunder girls top Foley 81-41 for 5th in row

The Zimmerman Thunder found it simpler to handle the Foley Falcons when the Falcons’ 6-foot-5 center wasn’t in the lineup.

The Thunder won their fifth straight 81-41 over the Falcons at home Friday evening.

In their previous meeting, the Thunder won 68-63. This time, Tara Dusharm was sidelined with a hip problem.

“They are obviously not the same team without her,” said Thunder coach Lance Dalbey. “They depend on her so much on defense. If you get by their guards, you run into her, but they didn’t have that tonight.”

Getting the bulk of their points in close, the Thunder had scoring from all over as Lexi Funaro hit 22 points, Kaitlyn Mason 18, Brooke Borchardt 10,  Jamie Schuster 10, and Maddie Jacob nine.

The Thunder made three 3-pointers and 12 of 19 free shots.

Zimmerman improved to 7-2 conference, 13-6 overall, and Foley dropped to 6-4 conference, 12-6 overall.

The Thunder will host Milaca on Monday.
