Hockey: Elks’ Berglove is finalist for state senior goalie honor

Elk River goalie Maclean Berglove will attend the Mr. Hockey banquet as one of the two finalists for the Frank Brimsek Award, which goes to the state’s top senior goalie.

Hunter Shepard of Grand Rapids is the other finalist for the Brimsek Award.
Berglove, a two-year starter, has a 2.85 goals-against average and .898 save percentage for the Elks (14-6).

The Mr. Hockey finalists are Duluth East’s Phil Beauilieu, Blaine’s Tyler Cline, Benilde-St. Margaret’s Spencer Naas, Edina’s Tyler Nanne, Grand Rapds’ Avery Peterson, Hill-Murray’s Mitch Slattery, Eden Prairie’s Steven Spinner, Eden Prairie’s Luc Snuggerud, Eagan’s Nick Wolff and Roseau’s Zach Yon.

The awards will be presented by Minnesota Minute Men at the banquet March 9 at the St. Paul RiverCenter, one day after the state hockey tournaments conclude.

Berglove will be the first Elk at this honors banquet since Paul Martin won Mr. Hockey in 2001.
