The Spectrum Sting wrestlers had four champions and placed second in the Tri-Metro Conference tournament hosted by Spectrum on Thursday evening.
Trinity at River Ridge beat out the Sting 181 to 173 for the championship of the six-team conference. BCCA had 131, St. Agnes 104, St. Croix Lutheran 102, and MAD Wrestling 82.
The Sting won four straight title matches — Esteban Teigen at 113, Ryan Killeen at 120, Luke Nolden at 126, and Sam Rogers at 132.
Teigen (25-1), Killeen (22-3) and Nolden (22-6) each had a bye and two pins. In the finals, Teigen stuck Trinity’s Stephen Brewer in 1:25, Killeen finished St. Croix Lutheran’s Gilbert Fiedler in 1:06 and Nolden pinned St. Croix Lutheran’s Joe Ulrich in 1:20.
Rogers (12-11) had a bye, pin, and 19-11 win over BCCA’s Pedro Morales.
Sting runners-up were Steffan Salfrank (17-13) at 106, Noah Rogers (12-18) at 152, Elliot Uecker (8-12) at 220 and Wang Chuhao (2-1) at 285. Placing third were Josiah Roberts (15-14) at 145 and Shane Herrling (14-8) at 182.
Next for the Sting will be hosting Orono and St. Paul Highland Park on Friday, Feb. 6.
