Man struck by train identified

A man believed to be walking at about 4:45 p.m. on Jan. 20 on the train tracks just north of the intersection of 192nd Ave. and Zebulon St. in Big Lake Township was struck and killed by a northbound Northstar train, according Sheriff Joel Brott.

The gate arms controlling the intersection  located west of Elk River were in the lowered position, and the train came to a stop a short distance beyond the intersection after striking the man.

He was identified as Robert Borowick, a 51-year-old Blaine man.

Northstar customers were taken to their destinations by a combination of trains and replacement buses during the disruption.

Assisting at the scene were the Elk River Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, BNSF and Elk River Fire Department. The Sherburne County Sheriff’s Office and Metro Transit Police are investigating.
