Hockey: Blaine pummels Elk girls 6-1

The Blaine Bengals, battling Maple Grove for the conference lead, didn’t let Elk River-Zimmerman scuttle their plans Wednesday evening, thumping the Elks 6-1 at Elk River Arena.

The Bengals were 3-for-5 on the power play with goals by Breanna Mahoney, Kiersten Falck and Paige Beebe. They added three even-strength by Sam Swanstrom, Amy Schlagel and Ashley Osbeck.

Kaylee Forster got the lone goal for the Elks (6-5-3 conference, 12-7-3 overall). Michaela Gould was in the nets, stopping 34 of 39.
Makayla Tilton was stingy in the nets for Blaine with 31-for-32.

Blaine is 11-2-1 in the Northwest Suburban and 16-3-2 overall. Maple Grove is right behind then at 11-2-2.

The Elks will play at Coon Rapids on Saturday, 3 p.m.
