Hockey: Elk girls notch 3rd shutout in row, 2-0 over Champlin

Elk River-Zimmerman posted its third straight road shutout victory, 2-0 over Champlin Park on Tuesday evening.
The Elks (5-3-3 conference, 11-5-3 overall) outshot the Rebels 30-14. Michaela Gould notched 14  saves. The sophomore was also in goal when the Elks won 4-0 over Grand Rapids-Greenway and 8-0 over Duluth Northern Stars.
Senior veterans got the goals for the Elks. Defenseman Kaylee Forster struck just 1:28 after the opening face-off (Julia Miller assisting). Forward Emily Heid made it 2-0 at 16:24 of the second (Abbie Canton assisting).
The Rebels dropped to 5-8 conference, 8-11 overall.
Next for the Elks is their Hockey Day Minnesota matchup with Anoka on Saturday, 4 p.m., at the Handke outdoor rink.
