The Zimmerman Thunder played without their scoring leader and two other regulars but won their third straight road game, 52-38 over Little Falls on Thursday evening.
The Thunder are 3-1 in the Granite Ridge Conference and 8-5 overall. Little Falls is 1-4 and 2-10.
Scoring leader Lexi Funaro missed the game with illness along with Sabrina Steinke and Abby Wiseness.
Brooke Borchardt sank 13 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Cami Bond scored 10 points, Kaitlyn Mason 9, Maddie Jacob 8, Danielle Williams 6, Jamie Schuster 5 and Camilla Johannson 2. Alexis Olerich and Amanda Rodriguez provided good defensive minutes off the bench, said the coach.
“It was a hard fought game, and the kids, although we were really short-handed, played well enough to win,” said coach Lance Dalbey.
He added that the team won despite not shooting well.
“We weren’t able to get into a rhythm until the second half. Our shots that have been falling just weren’t last night.”
Dalbey said the Thunder had 19 turnovers but that met the team goal of keeping them under 20. They were averaging around 13 the previous five games which was “outstanding.”
Zimmerman will play at Becker on Thursday.
