Basketball: Long run helps Apollo boys clip Zimmerman 67-62

St. Cloud Apollo took control with a 20-0 run and defeated the Zimmerman Thunder 67-62 Monday evening in Zimmerman.
The Thunder led 30-21 before the Eagles scored the last 18 points of the half and the first basket of the second half for a 41-30 lead.

Tyler Theisen, senior 6-3 center, kept the Thunder in the game with 24 points, including five 3-point shots, before fouling out. Senior guard Noah Lunning added 13 points including two 3-pointers.

The Thunder (6-8) sank 10 treys in all and needed them badly because Apollo’s stifling zone defense sealed off the inside.
Ethan Novacinski, 6-5 sophomore center, led Apollo (9-5) with 22 points. Senior guard Noel Teigen hit 18 points and senior forward Jeremy Koffi added 12.
Mac McNulty scored 8 points and Kristian Bright 7 for the Thunder.
Zimmerman, 4-0 in the Granite Ridge, will resume conference play Tuesday evening at Albany.
