Elk River lost a conference game at Centennial 62-54 on Friday evening after leading 33-25 at halftime.
“We got killed on the boards in the second half,” said Elk coach Randy Klasen, noting that the Cougars out rebounded them 21-7 in the last 18 minutes.
Matt Keller, sophomore guard, shot 6-for-9 on 3-pointers to keep the Elks in the game, totaling 18 points. Devell Miller added 13 points before fouling out. Season scoring leader Clay Elrod had an off-night with two points, going 0-for-7 from the field.
The Elks were 13-for-14 on free shots but had only four attempts in the second half while Centennial had 20.
Centennial improved to 4-4 in the NWSC and 6-6 overall. The Elks are 5-3 and 9-3.
Next for the Elks is Osseo at home Tuesday.
