After about three years of planning, two Otsego men have opened an indoor gun range and training facility in Rogers.
Target Sports Minnesota is located at 14166 Northdale Blvd., near Highway 101 and 141st Avenue.
A grand opening will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11.
Target Sports Minnesota includes a 25-yard shooting range with 10 stalls. There is a retail area and a classroom where firearm classes are offered as well. The classroom is designed to be large enough for youth air rifle classes and leagues.
Steve Benoit and Gary Morrison are business partners in the venture. They have been friends since junior high and bring their own individual strengths to the new business.
Benoit said Morrison has a coaching background and is involved in coaching his daughter’s air rifle league.
Benoit works in the parks and recreation field and brings to the table a knowledge of how to run classes, leagues and special events and how to handle memberships.
“For me, it’s doing recreation but more in the private sector,” Benoit said.
He said the facility will be family-friendly and cater to youth, families and women.
Their wives, Liz Benoit and Natalie Morrison, are also involved in the business.
Benoit said their research has indicated a demand for a range in the area. The closest indoor ranges up to this point have been in Monticello, Robbinsdale and Circle Pines, he said.
Target Sports Minnesota hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturdays and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays.
