Wrestling: Elks 3rd at Cambridge meet, Caldon wins 113 title

The Elk River wrestlers placed third in the Cambridge-Isanti Invitational on Saturday with four finalists and one champion, Garrett Caldon.

Cambridge-Isanti and Little Falls finished one-two, followed by the Elks, in an eight-team meet.

Caldon (7-2), a junior, took the 113-pound title, pinning Brady Konz of Cambridge-Isanti in 3:11 in the finals.

Finishing second were Cole Moening at 132, Kyle Ziemer at 138 and Ryan Osberg at 160. Moening (8-7) lost to David Brenden of Grand Rapids 6-0 in the finals, Ziemer (10-3) lost to James Frederickson of Cambridge-Isanti 4-1 and Osberg (8-7) lost to David Kent of Cambridge-Isanti 7-2.

Placing third Ben Gibas at 120 and Aaron Hannan at 182. Placing fifth were Anthony Meister at 106, Brian Hansen at 126, Sam Gibas at 145 and Bobby Schmitz at 220. Placing sixth was Casey Schiltz at 152.

Elk coach Paul Nelson called it a good effort with 11 of 14 Elks placing in the top six and four finalists.

The Elks will resume conference play at Osseo on Wednesday evening.
