Swimming: Elk boys 4th at Spring Lake Park meet

The Elk River swimmers placed fourth among eight teams at the Spring Lake Park Invitational on Saturday.

“We swam well, as we usually do at this meet,” said coach Denise Green, adding that the Elks were missing two varsity regulars with illness. “We have been battling stomach flu and respiratory flu basically since the season started.”

Spencer Hlavachek took second in the 100 freestyle and backstroke while Nick Kopp was second in the individual medley and breaststroke.

Elk diver Andy Bronshteyn, who placed fifth in Class AA at state last year, was second behind last year’s Class A champion, Mitch Raihle of Spring Lake Park.

The Elk medley relay and 400 freestyle relays both placed third.

Next meet is a dual at Maple Grove on Thursday.
