Roger Schuur

Roger Iko Schuur, age 72, passed away peacefully at home with his family on Dec. 19, 2013.
Roger was born July 31, 1941 in Britton, South Dakota, to Iko and Florence Schuur. His family moved to Elk River, MN and he graduated from Elk River high school in 1959. Roger married Joan Twedt on Nov 25, 1961 at the St Johns Lutheran Church in Annandale, MN. Roger and Joan raised three kids in Elk River before moving to Princeton, MN in 1988.
Roger worked for Hoffman Engineering as a welder in Anoka, MN for over 30 years.
Roger had a passion for horses that he shared with his family. Together they showed their horses in game events, trail rides and participated in 4H. Roger was a charter member of the Elk River Saddle Club, a 4H horse project leader in Sherburne County and a member of the Sherburne County fair board.
Roger put up a lot of hay using his international tractors with his family and later with his grandkids. He enjoyed his dogs, Lizzie and Kelly and maintaining his farm. Roger liked being surrounded by his family and he especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He enjoyed helping them learn to ride horse, teaching them how to ride a bike, and cheering them on at horse shows and various sporting events.
Roger is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan. He is also survived by his children and their spouses, son Alan and Debbie Schuur; daughter Michelle and Tom Murphy; daughter Christine and Jamie Flicek; his nine grandchildren: Danielle (Ben), Donald, Michael, Allison, Charlotte, Samantha, Marqus, James and Manny; as well as his great grandchildren: Jonathan and Emily.
Memorial service held on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at 11 a.m., at the Freshwater United Methodist Church-Brook Campus, 6823 305th Ave NW, Princeton, MN 55371
Rogers family would like to thank the Fairview Princeton Hospital staff and the Fairview Hospice and Home Care staff for their exceptional care and compassion.
