The Monticello Magic collected three pins, two forfeits and a technical fall for the big counters as they defeated the Rogers Royals 39-25 on Thursday evening in Rogers.
In the marquee matchup, Rogers’ Phillip Anderson, ranked No. 7 in Class 3A, won in triple overtime over Class 2A’s No. 4 Zach Beaumaster 4-2. Anderson prevailed on a stalling point in the second OT and an escape in the third.
Bret Wilson had a pin for Rogers at 106, improving to 12-0.
Rogers forfeited at 113 and 120 and was also open at 160 where it was a double forfeit.
“Monticello’s a great team, and it’s hard to beat a good team like that shorthanded,” said Rogers coach Chris Donnay.
Monticello is 2-2 in conference and 3-5 overall. Rogers is 0-2 and 2-2.
Rogers will compete at the Chisago Lakes tournament on Friday.
