Hockey: Elk girls thrive on power plays in 4-0 win over North Metro

All four goals came from special teams as Elk River-Zimmerman cruised 4-0 over winless North Metro Stars at home on Saturday evening.

The Elks had two power plays and Abbie Canton scored on both. The Elks’ penalty kill was 5-for-5 with Drea Westgaard and Emily Heid delivering short-handed goals.

Tiffany Lafontaine had her first start in goal for the Elks and got the shutout with 12 saves. The Elks had a 51-12 shot advantage.

The Elks improved to 4-3-2 in the NWSC and 5-4-2 overall. North Metro is 0-8 and 0-11.

Elk River will host Rogers next Saturday at 7 p.m.
