Emily Heid scored the hat trick, including twice in the second period to help Elk River-Zimmerman break it open, as the Elks defeated Cloquet-Esko-Carlton 6-3 at home Friday evening.
The score was tied 2-2 after a free-wheeling first period when the Elks had 21 shots, with Alison Boser and Abbie Canton (power play) connecting, while the Lumberjacks had 17 shots, with Mikayla Baker and Jade Alvillar both scoring on power plays.
Heid, Samantha Westgaard and Heid again rustled the net in the second period for a 5-2 lead. Alvillar scored again for C-E-C in the third before Heid completed the hat trick at the 9:54 marker.
Brianna Simon assisted on three goals, and Canton, Drea Westgard and Kaylee Forster one each.
Elk goalie Jessica Edwards saved 27 of 30 shots while C-E-C’s Stacy Nelson stopped 47 of 53.
C-E-C was 2-for-4 and the Elks 1-for-5 on the power play.
The Lumberjacks fell to 1-7-1 while the Elks improved to 4-4-2.
The Elks will host North Metro on Saturday, 7 p.m.
