The Zimmerman City Council convened Monday to reach consensus on a course of action after Council Member Greg Laney resigned abruptly last week.
Laney submitted a letter to the Council in which he said his work situation required him to move out of Zimmerman.
Laney’s term expires next year, Dec. 31, 2014. City staff recommended the Council seek a replacement as soon as possible. The council agreed to open the position up to all who apply.
The council may appoint any individual who is eligible for election to the office of City Council. To be eligible, a person must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of the city and at least 21 years old.
According to state law, the council is not obligated to appoint any candidate previously defeated in an election for the office.
Applications are available at City Hall, 12980 Fremont Ave., Zimmerman, MN 55398, or by contacting the city clerk and treasurer at 763-856-4666, ext. 22 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
