Basketball: Thunder boys nip Milaca 52-49

Max McNultty’s 3-point shot was the game-winner as Zimmerman edged Milaca 52-49 in Milaca on Friday evening, staying unbeaten in conference play.

With the score tied, Zimmerman called a time out with 17 seconds left and set up a pick-and-roll play, said coach Ben Kvidt.

“They stopped the pick-and-roll, so we kicked it out, and Max hit a 3-pointer,” said Kvidt.

Milaca launched a 3-pointer in the final seconds that went in and out of the rim.

Kristian Bright sank 12 points, David Molinari 9, Tyler Theisen 8, Taylor McEachern 7, McNulty 5, Kody Dwyer 5, Noah Lunning 3 and Mack Riley 3 for the Thunder.

Zimmerman, 3-0 in the Granite Ridge and 5-2 overall, will play at Cambridge-Isanti on Tuesday.
