Wrestling: Royals lose by criteria to Big Lake after tying 36-36

The Rogers Royals won the last three matches to tie the score but Big Lake was awarded the victory by criteria in Rogers’ conference opener on Thursday evening in Big Lake.

Jordan Lemcke’s 9-0 win at 195, and second-period pins by Jake Owens at 220 and Andrew Piehl at 285, pulled Rogers even at 36-36. Big Lake got the criteria point for most six-point wins, five to four.

“We were a little short-handed with a couple of starters out, but overall we wrestled really well tonight,” said Rogers coach Chris Donnay. “Going into the last three matches we need 16 points to tie and the big three came up with exactly that. They were wrestling not to get pinned and to come out with two pins up there was huge.”

Big Lake is 3-0 and Rogers fell to 2-1.

Rogers will compete at the East Ridge tournament on Saturday.
