Elk River scored the last four goals of the game and overcame Maple Grove 6-3 on Thursday evening to stay undefeated.
Six different players scored for the Elks (2-0 conference, 4-0 overall) as they handed Maple Grove (2-1, 3-2) its first NWSC loss. There were five power play goals, with the Elks 3-for-5 and the Crimson 2-for-5.
After Alex Schwab and Andrew Zerban gave the Elks a 2-0 lead in the first period, the Crimson came out firing in the second period with three goals within 3 minutes, 25 seconds — by Sam Ross, Dane Abernathy and Josh Passolt, the last two on power plays.
However, Jake Jaremko pulled the Elks even with a power play goal at 7:22 of the same period. And in the third period, Dylan Bouten and Colton Budreau delivered power play goals at 9:48 and 12:23, and Jack Giessler closed the scoring at 14:59.
Jaremko and Zerban each assisted on two goals, and Bouten, Schwab, Bunker, Chase Springman, and Matt Kierstad made one assist each. Goalie MacLean Berglove stopped 18 of 21 shots. Maple Grove’s Cal McKenney stopped 26 of 32.
The Elks resume conference play on Saturday at Osseo, 7 p.m.
