The Elk River-Rogers-Zimmerman-Spectrum swimmers won two events and placed third in the season opening Northwest Suburban Conference Relays on Saturday at Coon Rapids.
“The Elks swam well today. We are very young with only two seniors,” said coach Denise Green. “We had some good swims from Spencer Hlavachek, Nick Kopp and Ben Kopp. Andy Bronshteyn looks good on the board. Our younger swimmers are improving with every practice and we look forward to see what we can do against Osseo on Thursday.”
Anoka won with 352 points, followed by Maple Grove 320, Elks 302, Andover 260, Osseo 246, Blaine 244, Armstrong 220, Champlin Park 214, Coon Rapids 148, Centennial 138, and Park Center 104
Placing first were the diving trio of Bronshteyn, Joseph Loija and Nico Andrican with 426.90 points, and the 300 backstroke quartet of Jake Kohorst, Zachery Kopp, Ben Kopp and Hlavachek with 2:51.76.
The Elks took third in the 300 breaststroke (Derek Jacobsen, Hunter Bechtel, Owen Musgjerd, Nick Kopp). Placing fourth were the 100 freestyle team (Arthur Fosse, Dylan Martie, Taylor Martin, Alexandria Morgan). Placing fifth were the 200 freestyle team (Jacobsen, Christopher Thorndal, Christian Reick, Andrew Weisgram) and the 400 freestyle team (Kohorst, O. Musgjerd, N. Kopp, Hlavachek).
“Our depth looks to be our strength this year,” said Green, “and every swim by everyone entered in the varsity line up will prove to be the difference in many meets this season.”
The Elks will open conference duals against Osseo at home.
