Elk River Fire and at least five other area fire departments are battling an apartment blaze that broke out Thursday morning.

Fire crews on the scene have not been able to confirm if everyone has made it out the Evans Meadows apartment building at 341 Evans Ave., but many residents have been evacuated and are being bused to nearby care facility and church.

A Guardian Angels employee who arrived at work about 6:30 a.m. saw some of the first fire trucks arrive.

Among the departments at the scene are Elk River, Big Lake, Ramsey, Rogers, Zimmerman and Anoka.

Much of the roof has burned up. Firefighters were able gain entry into the building after 8 a.m.

By 9:30 a.m. all but three apartment units had been check to make sure all residents got out. They were working getting to the last three.
