Cole Murray led with 24 points as the Rogers Royals defeated the Anoka Tornadoes 63-58 at home in their opener Tuesday evening.
Murray, a 6-foot-7 senior, shooting 10-for-14 while nabbing 12 rebounds and blocking three shots.
Junior guard Gunnar Bloom added 16 points, including a driving three-point play with 35 seconds left that opened five-point lead.
Alex Borchardt, senior forward, chipped in seven points, five assists, six rebounds and five steals.
The Royals went to the hoop for most of their points. They had a 38-31 rebound edge while 26-for-60 from the floor (just 1-for-8 on three’s) and 10-for-20 at the line.
Stephen Barthold sank 18 points for Anoka, 17 of them in the second half. Torry Ledin was next with 11.
