Author Jody Anderson will score a hat trick at the end of this month with the final goal coming to the host city of Hockey Day Minnesota 2014.
The Cambridge native will launch “Hockey Moms Aren’t Crazy” (November 2013, Big Pond Books) at the Nov. 27 Minnesota Wild game.
She will appear on KARE 11 on the morning of Nov. 30 before heading to Reading Frenzy Corner Bookstore in downtown Elk River on Small Business Saturday for an event from noon to 2 p.m.
If there’s one thing about hockey moms, it’s that they have stories, Anderson said. This hockey mom turned her knack for storytelling and her passion for the game into a collection of jokes and stories that honor hockey moms.
Anderson’s project began after sharing one of her favorite tales aloud. A listener made the off-hand remark, “You need to write a book.”
After thinking about it for a while, Anderson decided it was a good idea. But not just for her. She wanted to make a tribute to all hockey moms.
She started sharing book ideas with other moms, which led to interviews not only with hockey moms but also with the players themselves. They seemed to relish the opportunity to say how important their moms were to them.
The real turning point came when Anderson took her idea to social media. Through sites like Twitter and LinkedIn, she landed interviews with internationally known hockey greats, including the famed “Miracle on Ice” legend Mike Eruzione.
“Hockey Moms Aren’t Crazy” is filled with jokes and humorous illustrations. Stories collected from hockey moms and hockey pros are sprinkled in to add a blend of reality. The stories are sometimes funny and sometimes touching, creating a book that hockey moms everywhere can cherish.
The author has also teamed with her local National Hockey League franchise, the Minnesota Wild.
Together, they will be hosting a book party before the Wild’s game against the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday, Nov. 27, in St. Paul. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with the meet and greet, which FSN North Broadcaster Kevin Gorg will attend.
There are still tickets available for the launch at http://bit.ly/1aw5dDu and use the code “Wild” when purchasing. Cost is $60 for lower level or $30 upper and includes book, game and meet and greet before the game are in the Hospitality Suite.
