Basketball: Thunder boys lose opener to Big Lake 81-55

The Zimmerman basketball team lost its opener 81-55 to a Big Lake team expected to make a run at the state tournament Friday evening at home.

Big Lake zoomed to a 19-2 lead and played two good halves, leading 42-30 at the break and adding 39 in the second half.

Michael Doperalski scored 20 points, leading four Hornets in double figures.

Zimmerman was led by Kristian Bright and Tyler Theisen with 16 apiece.

The Thunder will play at Princeton on Tuesday.
