Elk River-Zimmerman picked up its first win 3-1 over Robbinsdale Armstrong/Cooper at home on Saturday evening.
After a scoreless first period, Emily Heid capitalized on a power play in the second period, with an assist from McKenna Wesloh and Kaylee Forster.
Breanna Simon scored in the third period, assisted by Abby Canton and Kennedy Mitchell. Armstrong/Cooper got its lone goal past Elk goalie Jessica Edwards (who had 24 saves) but Samantha Westgaard made it 3-1 with a goal assisted by Canton and Wesloh.
The Elks (1-2) were outshot 25-19 by Armstrong/Cooper (1-2).
“We’ve been doing well in the net and on defense; that’s a good sign,” said coach Joe Heasley.
The Elks will play at Blaine on Tuesday.
