Hockey: Elk girls fall to Anoka 2-1 in overtime

Elk River-Zimmerman lost its conference opener to Anoka 2-1 in overtime there Tuesday evening.

Elk freshman Annie Dalton tied the game 1-1 with 2:31 left in regulation when she maneuvered past a defender down the middle and beat the goalie one-on-one, assisted by Mandy Sailor.

Anoka’s Gabrielle Horsch scored 7:58 into the overtime to end the game. The Tornadoes, in their opener, took a 1-0 lead on Sierra Maki’s power play goal at 7:29 of the third period.

The Elks (0-2) outshot the Tornadoes 33-23. Anoka goalie Molly Scarborough made 32 saves, and ERZ’s Jessica Edwards had 21.

The Elks will host Armstrong/Cooper on Saturday, 7 p.m., in their home opener.

Anoka will be the Elks rival in their Hockey Day in Minnesota outdoor game Jan. 18.
