Hockey: Elk girls lose opener to Eden Prairie 3-1

The Eden Prairie Eagles scored the first three goals and defeated Elk River-Zimmerman 3-1 in their girls hockey opener on Saturday.

Anna Johnson scored even-strength, and Angie Heppelmann and Kate Rydland scored on power plays, for the host Eagles, who reached the state semifinals last year.

McKenna Wesloh got the Elks on the board at 15:05 of the second period.

The Eagles peppered the Elks and goalie Jessica Edwards with 34 shots on goal. The Elks launched 14 shots against Eagle goalie Alexa Dobchuk.

The Elks will play at Anoka on Tuesday.
