Holly Sutton, the former Elk River athlete who has coached Rogers girls soccer for four seasons, got a nice honor at the pre-state tournament banquet on Oct. 20.
Sutton was named Class AA girls coach of the year by her peers.
Sutton coached Rogers to a 24-0, state championship season her first year as head coach, 2010. The Royals slipped to 8-7-2 and 5-8-4 the last two years and started 1-4 this year but had an eight-game win streak and finished 11-7 with a share of the Mississippi 8 Conference title. Her four-year record at RHS is 48-22-6.
Sutton, 27, a physical education teacher, set scoring records at both Elk River and Winona State as a player.
