Rogers senior Reed Parent turned in the best run of his career to place second in Section 5AA on Thursday and qualify for his third state meet.
Parent broke his personal record by nine seconds and dipped under the 16 mark for the first time with 15:58.6 on the Anoka High School course. He trailed only Chase Cayo (15:46) of St. Michael-Albertville.
Parent, who placed 26th at state last year, will return to St. Olaf in Northfield for his final state meet Saturday, Nov. 2.
Meanwhile, Rogers senior Jackie Lindfors missed state by one place in the girls race, placing 12th (15:27).
The Rogers boys placed fifth among 16 teams. Centennial won with 71, followed by Mounds View 78, Maple Grove 103, STMA 122 and Rogers 132. Top two advance to state.
Rogers’ other counting scores were by Caleb Burke in 19th place (16:38), Tyler Bethke 29th (16:59), Carl Parent 31st (17:01) and Karl Gorecki 51st (17:28).
The Rogers girls placed ninth. Other counting scores were Dakoda Speidel in 30th (15:51), Madie Mikolich 39th (16:06), Jenna Karls 54th (16:20) and Hannah Teasdale 69th (16:35).
Anoka and Totino-Grace finished one-two and advanced to state. Top two individuals were Rachel King (14:18) and Lizzy Heil (14:26), both of St. Michael-Albertville.
