Oct 15 Workshop

The Sherburne County Board of Commissioners met in a Workshop Session on October 15, 2013 at the Sherburne County Government Center in the City of Elk River with all Commissioners present. Call to order by the Chair was at 11:14 a.m.
Anderson/Leonard unanimous to approve the Workshop Agenda for October 15, 2013 as presented.
Commissioner Petersen provided a review regarding the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Metropolitan Council, Wright and Sherburne Counties, and the cities of Elk River, Otsego, Albertville, St. Michael, and Hanover and Big Lake Township related to transportation planning and programming. Results from the census determined these areas have grown to be included in the Metro Area. John Menter, Public Works Director, provided a map of the Sherburne and Wright County areas included in the extended areas as part of the Minneapolis-St. Paul Urbanized Area, which is the first time the area has extended beyond the Metropolitan Councils seven county jurisdictional area. Discussion was held regarding the focus of this MOU is Transportation Planning and Transportation Funding; they want our transportation plans in these areas to be included in their plan. Metropolitan Council will need to approve the Memorandum of Understanding and it will then be brought to the County Board for action. Kathleen Heaney, County Attorney, is working with the Metropolitan Council on language in the MOU. Commissioner Petersen informed the Board that there is a 7-W Transportation Meeting scheduled on October 25, 2013.
