Elk River-Zimmerman goalkeeper Cody Christ and scoring leader Storm Heyer have been named to the coaches association all-state team.
Christ is among 22 players on the first team, and Heyer is among 22 players on the second team, in Class AA. Both are seniors in their third year as starters for the Elks.
The all-staters were announced Sunday evening at the pre-state tournament banquets at River Center in St. Paul, which the Elk boys and girls teams attended, as state-qualifying teams.
The 6-foot, 170-pound Christ anchored a defense that’s posted 11 shutouts in 19 games. He has a 0.68 goals-against-average, an .860 save percentage, and 4.3 saves per game.
“Cody has been a rock for our team since he has come into the program,” said Elk coach Aaron Lindquist. “He has been been a steadfast worker on his game. This season he has improved his communication and goal kicks, and his catches out of the air in traffic are the best I have ever seen.”
Heyer, a 5-9, 152-pound forward whose bursts of speed give him scoring chances, leads the Elks (13-3-3) in scoring with 13 goals and six assists. He has 24 career goals for the Elks.
“Storm has always had an attitude, without being self-absorbed, that he can do anything,” said Lindquist.
ERZ faces Edina in the state quarterfinals Thursday, 7:30 p.m., at Park High School in Cottage Grove.
