The countdown is on for Hockey Day Minnesota, and action in the Handke Pit in Elk River is heating up.

During the week of Oct. 7 volunteers put up and assembled hockey boards purchased and delivered to the site of Hockey Day Minnesota 2014 at a cost of $24,000. The cost of the boards, which will be sold after the hockey extravaganza is complete, includes the plexiglas that will go in next.

Fox Sports North has been by of late to film footage of the progress and check sight lines for the big day scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 18, down in the Handke Pit.

Among the many volunteers to work on the installation of the hockey boards at Handke were Dave Cowles, Sydney Brentenson, Matt Brentenson, Todd Mcchesney and Luke Bunker.
