Soccer: Elk boys tip Tech 1-0 on Griffin goal, advance to 8AA finals

Jordan Griffin notched the lone goal of the match as Elk River-Zimmerman squeezed past St. Cloud Tech 1-0 in the Section 8AA semifinals at home Saturday.

The No. 2 seeded Elks (12-3-3) advanced to the section finals against No. 1 Anoka (13-3-2),  which beat No. 4 Moorhead 4-2. That match will be held Tuesday, 7 p.m., in Anoka.

Griffin, a senior who has two of the Elks’ three goals in the playoffs, got a good leg on the ball from about 10 yards out, off a crossing pass from Storm Heyer, late in the first half.

The one-goal lead was fairly comfortable for the Elks as they kept the ball away from their net for the most part, although the No. 3 seeded Tigers (11-4-3) applied some pressure late in the match.

The Elks lost to Anoka 1-0 in overtime on Sept. 4.
