Soccer: Breseman, Rogers thump Buffalo 5-2; Elks next

The Rogers Royals were unbeaten state champions in girls soccer in 2010, but the 2011 and 2012 teams both lost in the first round of playoffs.

The Royals are back in the flow now. The Royals thumped Buffalo 5-2 in their Section 8AA opener at home on Thursday evening.

With 10 wins in their last 12 games, the No. 2 seeded Royals (11-6) will host No. 3 Elk River in the semifinals on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Jenna Breseman scored three goals, with Tessa Quintavalle assisting on two of them and Abby Gearou on the other.

Jenna Trochlil scored 29 seconds into the match, assisted by Miranda Peterson. The other goal was scored by Adri Tjeredsma, her first on varsity.
