Precision passing by Jeff Fasching helped St. Cloud Cathedral defeat an erratic Zimmerman Thunder team 23-6 on Friday evening in Zimmerman.
The Thunder lost two fumbles and gave up two interceptions. Facing an accurate passer who threw for three touchdowns, they also had no quarterback sacks or interceptions.
“We did not take care of the football, having four turnovers, and our team was not very physical,” said Thunder coach Tom Kish. “The game reminded me a lot of our first game of the season against Fridley (a 19-7 loss). We will have to get things back on track next week against Milaca.”
The Thunder (2-4) had a good start, with Noah Lunning snagging a pass from Matt Dorso for a 49-yard touchdown.
Cathedral (3-2) responded with a drive capped by a fourth-down, one-yard touchdown pass from Fasching to Dominic Austin, and a kick for a 7-6 lead. Fasching added scoring passes to Tommy Auger and Brady Yoerg in the second and third periods.
Lunning notched 197 yards from scrimmage in a losing effort, 113 rushing and 84 on three catches. Cathedral held Austin May, who rushed for 211 yards a week earlier in a win over Little Falls, to 27 yards in six carries.
The Thunder (2-4) will play at Milaca next Friday.
