Volleyball: Elks are 1-3 at Hopkins tourney

The Elk River volleyball team lost three of four matches at the Hopkins Invitational on Friday and Saturday.

“The Elks had moments of outstanding play against some very strong teams,” said coach Theresa Brummer.  “We continue to progress. We need to work on some inconsistent play but the effort and desire is there.”

Kelsey Owens, senior setter, was voted to the all-tournament team by her teammates.

“Kelsey is very deserving,” said Brummer. “Her teammates greatly appreciate how hard she works for them.”

The Elks (6-11) will host Andover on Tuesday.

Elks beat Red Wing 25-11, 25-10

Hopkins beats Elks 25-18, 25-14

Elk leaders — Sidney Wentland 4 kills … Abi Scheid  3 blocks … Kennedy Strain 2 kills , 2 blocks

Elks served 32-for-33 but Hopkins had a big outside hitter and solid server that took over the match.

Eastview beats Elks 25-10, 13-25, 15-5

Elk leaders — Sidney Wentland 9 kills …. Kelsey Owens 20 assists, 7 digs …. Kaitlyn Pearson 9 digs, 8-for-9 serving with 1 ace … Kayla Grimm 2.5 pass effeciency, 11-for-11 serving with 2 aces …. Gabi Haack 9 digs

Elks came out slow, then dominated game two, but unforced errors took them out of the match.
