The American Red Cross is assisting four adults and six children following a fire Monday night at a two-family house in the 600 block of Railroad Drive in Elk River.

Elk River Police and Fire were called to the home, located in between the barber shop and a vacant former gas station, on the evening of Sept. 23.

Fire destroyed parts of the upstairs and downstairs, making the home unlivable.

Upon arrival all occupants were out of the house except one adult female in the upstairs section.  She eventually came out of the apartment and no one was injured.

An ambulance crew checked out the tenants who were exposed to the smoke, but did not transport anyone.

Two families lived in the two-story duplex.

The cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.

The Red Cross helps provide disaster relief for immediate recovery needs, such as shelter, clothing, food, and emotional support.

Watch for more details on the fire and the displaced families.
