The Elk River girls took fifth place among 27 teams, and beat eight conference rivals, in the Class 4A division, largest of four classes, of the Milaca Mega Meet on Saturday.
“It was a beautiful day with many exceptional performances,” said coach Mike Niziolek. “Some of the young girls ran exceptionally well, which had a very positive impact.”
The Elks’ young lineup included sophomore Rachel Ness in 13th place (15:07), freshman Kennedy Warner 32nd (15:41), seventh-grader Annica Carr 45th (15:52), freshman Maria Brown 51st (15:57) and eighth-grader Rachel Dorff 74th (16:26).
East Ridge won with 55, followed by Moorhead 132, Bemidji 140, Totino-Grace 190 and the Elks 215.
Martha Hubbell, Visitation senior, won with 14:30.
Other NWSC teams were Armstrong (8th place), Maple Grove (10th), Andover (14th), Anoka (17th), Centennial (18th), Osseo (21st), Blaine (25th) and Champlin Park (27th).
Next for the Elks is the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota next Saturday.
Elk boys 20th; Trapp 9th
The Elk River boys placed 20th of 31 teams, led by Lucas Trapp in ninth place (16:15). Breck Hickman was 55th (17:16), Zach Glasgow 79th (17:29), Cory Warner 146th (18:23) and Nolan Goebel 181st (19:18).
Stillwater was team champion while Hutchinson’s Isaiah Barlow win individually with 15:30.
