Volleyball: Elks edge Coon Rapids for first NWSC win

Elk River snagged its first conference win in a tight duel with Coon Rapids 25-21, 25-23, 22-25, 25-23 on Thursday evening in Coon Rapids.

Kelsey Owens made 16 digs and put up 38 assists. The Elks had three with double-digit kills as Kelly Kolles plunked down 15, Kennedy Strain 11 and Sidney Wentland 10. Abi Scheid added 5 kills and 3 solo blocks. Kaitlyn Pearson notched 16 digs.

The Elks overcame shaky serving with 17 errors and just 5 aces in 93 attempts.

Elk River is 1-3 in the NWSC and 4-7 overall. Coon Rapids is 0-5 and 2-8.

The Elks will play at St. Francis on Thursday.
