Running Times web site featured Emma Bates, the former Elk five-time all-stater who placed third in the Division I nationals in the 10,000 meter race in June for Boise State, in a “College Runner Profiles” interview published Sept. 10.
The introduction focused on Bates’ relatively modest personal bests (by D-I recruit standards) in the 1600 and 3200 in high school and how far she has progressed at Boise.
Asked about the third-place finish in the 10,000, she said, “So once I pulled into third that last lap or two it really hit me that I may be one of the top girls in the nation. And to go from there it was just super exciting, to think about where I would be this year or next year or post-collegiately. It gets me even more motivated to win a national championship—that’s my main goal right now.”
