Tennis: Elks tip Hastings, Eagan and Winona in tournament

The Elk River tennis team picked up three victories at the Eagan tournament on Saturday.

Playing without one of their senior leaders, Becca O’Connell, at one-doubles, the Elks did some mixing that worked out well.

The Elks swept the doubles in a 4-3 win over Eagan. They moved No. 2 singles player Annika Teske to No. 1 doubles with Hadley Purdy in that match. Those two and Brooke Burns-Dani Dokken won in straight sets, while Emma Hannegraaf and Erin Reiner delivered the decisive point in a marathon 5-7, 6-4, 12-10.

The Elks (11-3) also beat Hasting 6-1 and Winona 5-2. Eighth-grader Megan Brown was 3-0 at No. 1 singles, and Purdy won with three different partners at No. 1 doubles.

The Elks will host Blaine on Tuesday.
