The Zimmerman Thunder had an unbeaten week, posting a 4-0 win over St. John’s Prep on Tuesday and a 1-1 tie with Little Falls on Thursday.
Against SJP at home, Brooke Salo scored in the sixth minute, assisted by Jamie Pensinger. The Thunder got two goals in the 35th minute, from Camilla Johansson and Amanda Sahr, both unassisted. Abby Canton added another in the 60th minute, assisted by Cami Bond.
“Lot’s of ball movement and good passing made for an entertaining game,” said coach Jeff Downing.
The Thunder pulled out a tie against the Flyers when Salo drove home a header in the 72nd minute off a corner kick from Maddie Jaocob at Little Falls. Katie Yoreck had scored in the 34th minute for the Flyers. The overtime had chances for each team but the goalies were up to the task.
Downing cited Raina Watson for solid play at center back.
“She had to move inside when we lost Molly Kieliszewski to an ACL tear,” said Downing, adding that the team is playing through some minor injuries across the roster with a full week ahead. “We will find out how deep we are.
The Thunder (1-1-1 conference, 3-4-1 overall) will have four road games in six days: Princeton on Monday, Big Lake on Tuesday, St John’s Prep on Thursday, and Eveleth-Gilbert on Saturday.
